The popular travel website TripAdvisor has named Pensacola’s National Naval Aviation Museum to its list of top 25 museums nationwide.

The local Navy museum comes in at 14 on the list, which includes well-known museums such as the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and the Getty Center.

The rankings, released Monday, were part of TripAdvisor’s 2016 Travelers’ Choice Awards and were based on the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for the museums.

Ret. Navy Capt. Sterling Gilliam, National Naval Aviation Museum director, said the ranking was an indication that visitors have a worthwhile experience at the museum.

“It is especially satisfying given TripAdvisor rankings are driven by user-generated content. It is nice to know our visitors are having a good experience when they visit our campus,” he said.
