LTJG MANUEL "Del" ODELON DELGADO, USN
1928 - 2014

Manuel “Del” Delgado joined the Navy at the age of 17. In 1948, he was trained as a Naval Aviator in Jacksonville and assigned to the U.S.S. Midway, Air Group 4, in which he served in the Korean War.  He piloted the F4U-4 “Bug Swacker.”  LTJG Delgado served until September 2, 1952, when he attended Tulane University and completed his Bachelors in Business Administration. He founded Chem Carb CO2 and worked between New Orleans and Pensacola until he sold the company in 1994.

Del and his wife retired to Gulf Breeze, FL from 1994 through 2011. Del remained an avid aviator and sailor outside of the Navy and loved taking his grandchildren to the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola to teach them about his heritage.  He was a member of the Aviation Midshipman Association and the Lite Blue Angels, and was a Quiet Bird. He loved watching the Blue Angels perform.

Del passed away in New Orleans on January 27, 2014, at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Lois Villars Delgado; his three daughters Celene, Odette, and Lisa; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
