Rocky Mountain Express Rocky Mountain Express propels audiences on a steam train journey through the breathtaking vistas of the Canadian Rockies and highlights the adventure of building the nation’s first transcontinental railway. The completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in the Rockies in 1885 ranks among the greatest engineering feats in history. Retracing the original route aboard the majestic steam engine 2816, the audience is transported back to the age of steam to re-live this alpine nation-building odyssey. The IMAX® Naval Aviation Memorial Theatre is one of the largest IMAX® theatres in the world and has the largest screen in Florida. It took nearly two years to construct the theatre. The screen is 10 times larger than a traditional cinema screen, and fills the whole field of peripheral vision.

Made of a reflective and perforated vinyl, the screen is mounted taut over a scaffold frame containing 690 tons of structural steel and 1,990 cubic yards of concrete. The screen is 62 feet high and 82 feet wide with a frontal surface area of 5,084 square feet. The screen itself weighs over 600 pounds. The projector passes 70mm film at 24 frames per second over a 3-foot diameter rotor turning at 180 mph, projecting an image on the screen magnified 273 times the size of the film frame.
