Your History Is Naval Aviation’s History

The first artifact donated to the National Naval Aviation Museum was the wings of gold worn by Commander Malcolm Scott Carpenter on his Mercury spaceflight of 24 May 1962. Since that time, thousands of items have been accessioned into the collection, ranging from personal letters written from embattled islands to flight gear bearing the scars of war. Notebooks on the working of the World War I Liberty engine maintained by a mechanic are housed in close proximity to the medals of Naval Aviation's first four-star admiral and items flown to the stars aboard the Space Shuttle. The Museum's collections span the entire spectrum of Naval Aviation's nearly century-old history. The essence of that history is the individual experiences that collectively form it and to this end, the Museum welcomes donations from veterans, their families, or anyone with an association or interest in the history of Naval air power.

All items donated to the National Naval Aviation Museum and accessioned into the collection become the property of the United States Navy.
