USS Essex (CV-9) Scoreboard (South Wing)

The scoreboard that was displayed on the hangar deck of the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV/CVA-9) during World War II and the Korean War reflects the differences in the nature of combat in both, the wide-ranging sea battles of the Pacific replaced by a war of interdiction in which success was measured by destroying locomotives and even ox carts instead of enemy carriers and battleships.
