CAPT PAUL E. PAYNE, USN
1921 - 1999

Captain Payne was born in Illinois and died at the age of 77. He graduated from New York University Class of 1942. Joined the Navy in 1942 as a cadet. Member of the first Navy jet fighter squadron in 1947. Graduate of the Empire Test Pilots School in Farmborough, England. Commanding Officer of the carrier U.S.S. Valley Forge during the Vietnam War. Retired from the Navy in 1973.
