| An incredible husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family and his country. Captain Jackson Cleveland Arney originally entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947, as an enlisted member. After getting his degree at Western Carolina University, he returned to active service in 1951. He received his Wings of Gold in Pensacola in 1954. In 1958, after eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, Captain Arney joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in St. Petersburg, FL. His career in the Marines and the U.S. Coast Guard involved flying many types of aircraft. After serving 24 years in the Coast Guard, he retired in Norfolk, VA where he eventually went to work for the State of Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Medal and Ribbons: Expert Rifleman Metal; Victory Medal World War II; National Defense Service Medal; Expert Pistol Medal; Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation Badge; Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon; Humanitarian Service Medal Captain Jackson Cleveland Arney passed away on October 1, 2003. |
