CAPT JULIAN R. "Shoe " LOWE , USN
1942 - 2007

Captain Lowe graduated with a BS from UNC 1964.  His first assignment was aboard the USS Frigate Bird MSC-191.  He was later designated Naval Aviator # 691884 in 1968.  His unique experience as both a “Black Shoe” and later a “Brown Shoe” earned him his call sign, “ Shoe”.  He amassed over 5,000 flight hours with more than 800 carrier landings piloting F-4 Phantoms and F-14 Tomcats.
