Commanding Officer of VC-90, Robert A. O'Neill was born January 11, 1916, in Ironwood, Michigan. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, he quickly worked his way up the ranks to become commander of a carrier squadron in the Pacific in World War II. His squadron saw action at Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippines.
