Aircraft on Display (F-G)
Squadron Patches:
Flight jackets were originally worn to protect aviators from the harsh weather at high altitudes, but they quickly became a symbol that set aviators apart from everyone else. The display will take you from the dawn of the flight jacket to the present day Navy flight jacket, still issued to aviators. There are many colorful squadron patches with cartoon pictures depicting the squadron’s missions on display as well. This exhibit is located where the Quarterdeck (the Museum entrance) joins the South Wing.
Art Gallery:
The arts collection of the National Museum of Naval Aviation comprises hundreds of paintings, many sculptures, and dozens of ship and aircraft models, many of which are original. Of these, a selection is displayed in the Art Gallery, several more in the Emil Buehler Naval Aviation Library, and many more throughout the halls of the museum. Often painted or crafted by former aviators or crewmen, these pieces of art embody the emotion and essence of naval aviation.
