Plan a Field Trip

Field Trip The Museum offers three activities for K-12 school groups and other education groups (public, private and home schools, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, church youth groups, YMCA, JROTC, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, etc.)

  1. A self-guided visit to the museum exhibits, which contain over 150 aircraft.
  2. Viewing of an entertaining and educational IMAX® film.
  3. A five-minute design challenge in the Motion-Based Simulator.

We suggest that you allow at least two hours to visit the museum exhibits, one hour for an IMAX® film, and five minutes for the Motion-Based Simulator. Don't forget to allow at least 30 minutes for your group to have lunch, if you are staying for the day.

How to Make a Field Trip Reservation
You can contact us by phone, email or by submitting a form on this website. Call on weekdays between 8:00am and 4:30 pm at (850) 453-2025 to speak with Diane Bell or Lenore  Taylor. A school group must have a minimum of 15 people to qualify for school group discounts. One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students. Chaperones can be  teachers or parents. Chaperones are free.

Activities
Your group can choose from any of the currently showing IMAX® films. All IMAX® shows start on time, so your group should be here at least 30 minutes before showtime. We will not delay any show for any reason. No one will be seated once the show has begun. If your group is late for its showtime, we will make every effort to reschedule you.

There are three exciting Motion-Based Simulator rides to choose from. Read more about this activity on the Simulators page. Each ride lasts about five minutes and are scheduled in 15 minute intervals.

Field Trip - LunchesLunches
Prior to arrival, teachers and chaperones should collect all lunches. The best method is while at your school site, place all lunches in boxes or coolers, to provide for easier transport upon arrival. Lunches have to remain on buses. No food or drink is allowed in the Museum.

When weather permits, please feel free to eat outside in the park across the street from the Cubi Bar & Cafe. This also allows the students to burn off some extra energy before coming back inside. Tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please clean up after your group and place all trash in designated trash containers.

Educational Materials
Most IMAX® Teacher Guides are developed in cooperation with national teachers associations, award-winning teachers, universities and scientific foundations. The comprehensive content can be easily adapted to your curriculum and includes discussion topics, exercises and hands-on group projects. Please visit our Teachers Resources page and download appropriate IMAX® educational materials for the movie your group will watch.

Costs/Payment
Admission to the Museum is free. The school group rate for IMAX® movies is $4.75 per person per movie (one adult chaperon per group of 10 children is free). The cost for each Motion-Based Simulator ride is $2.00 per student accompanied with an IMAX® ticket; cost is $2.50 without an IMAX® ticket. Flight Line tours are free but space is limited. Reservations must be made for your group to take this bus tour.

Payment for the entire group must be made with a single check, credit card (isa or master card) or cash. We cannot accept purchase orders or vouchers. Make checks payable to Foundation Museum Support Company (FMSC). Due to last minute changes in group sizes, pre-payments are discourage.
